Maternity Portraits

The best time to capture maternity portraits is between the 7th and 8th month of pregnancy. We suggest that you don't wait until the ninth month, as most mom's find themselves feeling uncomfortable and that their belly no longer looks "cute".  Maternity portraits can be done with mom alone or dad and other children involved. The current trend in maternity photography is being photographed on either a white and/or a black background. In order to emphasis on your belly, we suggest that you and anyone being photographed with you to bring BOTH a white shirt and a black shirt.  Jeans are classic.

Here are some other suggested items you may want to bring for your maternity session:

 - a toy such as a stuffed animal or baby booties.

 - an ultrasound photograph.

 - a button-down white shirt of "dad's".

 - a white nite gown.

 - A black "belly-band" is works great as a haulter top and helps show off your belly.

Newborn Portraits

The newborn stage does last long. For photographer's there is a small window of time to preserve that treasured time. The perfect time to capture this moment is 3-10 days after birth. Often times, mothers are still not feeling quite themselves, so we know it is hard to make this happen. But this is the time when we can get those precious images of baby sleeping so peacefully. After 4 weeks, babies are not so likely to sleep during their session.

Newborn sessions may last anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the boss (the newborn.) We will do everything possible to make your little one comfortable while being photographed. Below is a few suggestions:

 - If you want your newborn sleeping for the session, hold of as long as you can to feed baby until you get to the studio.

 - Please arrive 10-20 minutes before your session time is to start. We will give you a private and comfortable area to feed the baby and relax before the session.  This will help save time, trying to get baby to sleep for the portraits.

 - Bring something personal such as a baby blanket, hats, jewery, baby toy, or other item you'd like baby to be photographed with.

 - A nice warm blanket is necessary to cuddle the baby in while you are relaxing, even in the summer.

 - If you give your baby a pacifier, you will want to bring it to the session.

 - If you plan on being photographed with your baby, it is best if you bring your shirt on a hanger and change once we are ready. This way our graphic artist doesn't have to digitally remove any "accidents" from the final portraits.

 - The most popular choice for clothing for the parents or anyone being photographed with baby is either or both a white shirt and/or black shirt with jeans. The color tone of the denim jeans should be the same for everyone. Also, for black tops it is highly recommended that everyone wears long sleeves. Bare arms will stand out greatly on an all black scene, even thin ones.

Child Portraits

We have found that parents tend to stress more over child portraits that the photographer or the child. Our staff takes the time to let your child became comfortable in the studio and in front of the camera. We strive to capture that most natural expressions from your child.

Clothing choices for children are generally left up to the parents. However we still have a few suggestions:

 - Denim jeans are timeless as well as solid colored shirts.

 - Shirts with pictures or words are distracting.

 - Most of the time, shoes do show in your photograph so be sure to have the proper shoes or let your little one go barefoot.

 - Have your child bring a special toy to be photographed with.

 - If your child wakes up sick the day of the session, he/she will most likely not feel well enough to have portraits taken. It is best if you call the studio to reschedule your session.

 - The photographer may ask only one or two people to come into the studio with the child. Often times, too many people make children distracted.

 - No matter how hard you try to protect them, children always seem to get a "boo-boo" the day before their portrait session. Boo-boos can be digitally fixed.

 - Please arrive at the studio approximately 10-15 minutes before your session time. This will give your little one to familuarize themselve with the studio and relax. If there are no sessions before, it will also give the photographer some "bonding" time with your little one.

Family & Group Portraits

- Please arrive approximately 10-15 minutes before your session. This will give you time to fill out paperwork, to make any final adjustments on hair and make-up and also give you and your children time to relax before your session.

 - Dress everyone in the same color tones.

 - For outdoor portraits, earth tones look the best. Such as green, brown, navy, burgundy tops with jeans or khaki colored pants.

 - For beach portraits pastel colors or white shirts with khaki shorts, capris or pants look wonderful.

 - Black shirts also are great for studio or outdoor portraits. Long-sleeved black shirts help slim and blend the bodies together. Jeans are recommended with black tops. Please note that bare arms will stand out, even thin ones.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR

TIPS FOR BOTH GALS AND GUYS

 - Schedule your senior portrait session early! Summer time is the best time for outdoor portraits and studio availability. Once school starts, afternoon appointments fill up fast and it may be 2-3 weeks for the first available day. Typically, it takes approxiately 6-8 weeks for the entire process to be completed. This time varies greatly if you choose to not have a proofbook printed and place your ordering immediately after your portrait session. In that case it will only take approximately 3 weeks until your portrait order will be ready for pick-up. Also, all yearbook images are digitally sumbitted at no charge with your portrait order, so be sure to check with your student's yearbook advisor for yearbook deadlines.

 - Arrive approximately 10- 15 minutes before your session. This will give you time to fill out paperwork, touch up hair and make-up and relax before your portrait session begins.

 - Be sure your clothes are clean and wrinkle-free. Wrinkles do show and can not be removed digitally.

 - Check with the photographer or the studio associate on how many outfits your session includes. If you are unsure on a clothing choice, bring an extra one and the photographer will help you decide.

 - For studio sessions, we recommend one "dressy" outfit, a casual outfit and an outfit of your choice such as sports uniform. For outdoor sessions, casual is the best. If you want to dress up the look a little bit, you can add a nice jacket or blazer.

 - Try to avoid the same style of clothes for each outfit you bring. Example: all t-shirts, all tank tops or all summer clothes such as shorts and capris.

 - Shoes show in portraits. Be sure to bring the right ones for each outfit.

 - General hygene is a MUST! We don't to sound like mom but, "be sure to brush your teeth and clean your nails."

 - If you plan on getting a hair cut for your portraits, do it approximately 1 -2 weeks before. We can digitally fix bad hair cuts but it will be very costly for you since it is not an option in our Graffix or Retouching Package.

 - Tan lines are costly to remove so avoid obvious tan lines and burns. Tan lines may show after a hair cut as well.

 - Bring a prop. Sports gear, sunglasses, awards, a pet, music equipment, artwork, purses, shoes.. you name it, we will photograph it.

 - We photograph friends such as best friends and boy/girl friends at no charge, however, please keep in mind that our proofbooks do not allow you to remove a picture out of it. You would have to cut it out if you are no longer friends later. We suggest that if you bring a friend to be photographed with, we will add it to your favorites but not to your proof book. This way you can order a print of that image later.

TIPS FOR THE GALS        TIPS FOR THE GUYS

 GALS:

 - Be careful of baggie clothes. They make you look larger than you are.

 - If you think you have large arms, don't wear short sleeved or sleeveless shirts. We recommend you wearing mid or long sleeved tops.

 - Choose your undergarments wisely. Color is important. Tan is the best. Wear a strapless if possible.

 - Nails show! Even the chipped ones. Choose a natural or basic color. Bright colors are distracting. Don't forget your toes.

 - Accessorize, Accessorize, ACCESSORIZE!!! Bring scarfs, jackets, sunglasses, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, hats, Hats, HATS!

 - Bring a hairbrush to soften your hair during your session.

 - If you'd like to change your hair style or make-up, we suggest you schedule our outdoor and studio session on different days. If you are only planning on having one session, then we suggest you choose our Deluxe session, for a longer session time.

GUYS:

- Remember, mom gets her nice shot. She is just cool enough to let you have yours. Make her happy.

 - Bring a dark tee to wear under a dark shirt. White tees under dark shrts stick out like a sour thumb. Also be sure it is a plain tee so that no printing shows through.

 - Clean shaving is a must. Retouching stubble is costly and never loks as good as a clean shave.

 - Find something awesome to be photographed with like a guitar, football gear, or the prom queen.
